Mr Klein's kind words have gotten me thinking again as to where my research may have gone had I not been viciously and unlawfully attacked at Manoa in February 1989 (a battle that continues to this day as noted elsewhere). I have said Afghanistan (along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh) would have been very likely subjects. Plus I recall myself as of 1988 starting to reflect upon Hawaii's unique economy, and also upon the (rather dismal) state of academic economics in America. Because of the battle I have hardly had a chance all these years to write about the US economy. In 1992-1993 and 1994-5 I wrote a little about US macroeconomics while in Washington and New York but these were seen only by a few friends (including I am honoured to say, the late Milton Friedman). The fact I finally have been able to publish a little about the US economy after the 2008 crisis (in "October 1929 Not!", and "America's divided economists") tells me I likely would have done much more.
